Mountain course

Mountain course – the next step in your pilot training 🏔️

Once you have obtained your Student license and built up good control on the ground through slope gliding and Ground handling , you are ready to take the next step – Mountain license .
You should feel confident with takeoffs, turns, and landings before moving on.

Course structure

Our mountain training is conducted in Åre , where we have access to a unique area that makes it possible to fly in almost all wind directions .
There are skilifts that take us up the mountain , which makes training efficient and smooth. For flights from Hummeln, it is also possible to drive a car all the way up to the launch site , which gives us great flexibility.

Theory part

The theory builds on the basics from your first course, but the focus is now on flying in a mountain environment . We go over weather assessment, topography, approach and landing planning, and how to analyze conditions on site. The course concludes with a theory test .

Practical part

The practical part includes approximately ten flights . During these you will practice:

  • assess the airfield and choose the right take-off technique

  • prepare and conduct safe launches

  • fly with good control and perform maneuvers with the right corrections

  • plan and execute controlled approaches and landings

To be approved, all elements according to the student card must be completed and the course objectives achieved.

Requirements for participation

You need to have a valid Student license and be in good physical shape. Regular training in ground handling and balancing is highly recommended before starting the course.

Course content and length

The course runs Monday to Friday and includes both practical and theoretical training according to the elements in the training manual.
In case of bad weather, Saturday can be used as a reserve day .

When

The course will start as soon as we have at least four participants registered.

After the course

When you are approved, you will receive a Mountain rating , which gives you the right to fly in a mountain environment within the framework of your license level.
