Pilot 1

P1 paragliding course – take the next step towards independent flying in Åre 🪂

Do you want to start flying more independently and develop as a pilot?
Our P1 course in Åre is the next step in your paragliding training and leads to the Pilot 1 (P1) license level .
The course is designed for those of you who already have a Student license and want to learn to fly thermals, fly distance and understand flying in more active conditions .

Here you will receive both in-depth theory and practical flight training in one of Sweden's best environments for paragliding.

Course structure

P1 training is primarily held during our courses in Åre , where you get to train in varying conditions and in an area that offers flights in almost all wind directions.
We can also conduct the training on our trips abroad , where you will gain even more flight hours and experience in new environments.

Theory part

The theory in P1 is more comprehensive than previous levels and goes into depth on topics such as aerodynamics, meteorology, aeronautics and risk management .
You will learn to understand how weather, terrain and air currents affect your flight and how to make the right decisions in thermal conditions.

🧭 The theory part is completed online before the start of the course , so you can focus completely on flying and practical elements during the course week.

Practical part

During the course you will practice:

  • curve effectively in thermals

  • fly in active air with good control

  • improve precision in turns, pitch and roll

  • handle unforeseen situations safely

You will complete several flight sessions where you will gradually develop your technique and confidence as a pilot.
All training follows the SSFF training manual and is documented in your student card .

Requirements for participation

To participate you need:

  • be at least 15 years old (certificate of competence can be obtained at the earliest at 16)

  • have a valid Student license with Mountain and Slope or Winch authorization

  • have completed at least 50 altitude or Soring flights and at least 10 flight hours

  • be in good physical shape

Course content and length

The course begins with online theory studies , followed by three days of practical exercises and theory sessions in Åre or on one of our trips.
After the course, you will be examined with a theoretical exam and assessment of practical elements according to the training manual.

Where and when

We hold P1 courses continuously during the season in Åre and on our trips abroad , where we have excellent flying conditions and access to a mountain environment.

After the course

When you have passed all the elements, you will receive a Pilot 1 (P1) license , which means you can fly independently within your qualifications and continue to develop towards Pilot 2 .
